The Albert & Eunice Boscov $25,000 Matching Gift Challenge

The funds from the Albert and Eunice Boscov Matching Gift Challenge will allow us to hire a second Patient-Family Placement Specialist. We will then have the staff capacity to place twenty more patient-families per night at host-homes.

Families such as patient Judith Brown from Georgia and her sisters Evelyn and Valerie. Due to a domestic assault Judith is restricted to a wheelchair.

Her incredibly dedicated sisters help her with all of her daily needs. This fall Judith needed spinal surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Through HfH she and her sisters were able to afford coming to Philadelphia for her care.

Judith, Evelyn and Valerie lodged with welcoming host-families for thirty days. While Judith was an out-patient she and her sisters were placed at an elevator access home. No other local program exists to provide low-cost lodging and incredibly caring support for patients such as Judith.

HOSTS for HOSPITALS lodging is available for patient-families receiving care at all accredited medical facilities in Greater Philadelphia. Below are quotes from some of the medical staff with whom we regularly partner to help patient-families.

Please partner with us now by making a donation so we may provide a comforting home to even more patient-families in need…and thank you for reading this message!

Guest Testimony

Judith and Evelyn express their thanks for the kindness shown to them by their hosts.

“I can’t stress enough how this organization helps plug a significant gap in our ability to provide care to patients from a distance and I am thrilled that this relationship is growing.”

Gregory Garber

Director of Oncology Support Services, Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Thomas Jefferson University

“Your program provides a much-needed resource for patients who have challenging medical conditions and their families, and it has benefited our patients tremendously.”

Melinda Parisiu

Program Director, University Medical Center of Princeton, Center for Eating Disorders

“Dr. Carol Shields of the Oncology Service is world-renowned and a leading specialist in the treatment and management of retinoblastoma, the most common eye cancer in children. Desperate families travel to Wills Eye Hospital to try to save their child’s life. We immediately call HOSTS for HOSPITALS for lodging these children and their families.”

David Lashinsky

Practice Administrator, Wills Eye Hospital

“HOSTS for HOSPITALS has been an amazing resource for us and our families over the years. We recently had a young couple who were pregnant with their first child who was diagnosed with Spina Bifida. They were placed within a day and were greatly relieved to be in a home outside of the city (they were from a rural area) where they would have privacy and peace to recover from fetal surgery.”
